A collection of the works in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s African galleries, such as a Baga serpent figure, a Mossi Karan-wemba mask formerly in the Helena Rubenstein collection, a magnificent Fang reliquary figure that belonged to French art dealer Paul Guillaume, important Karagwe and Kuba iron sculpture, a rare Boa mask, a headrest by the “Master of the Cascade Coiffure,” and a Sapi-Portuguese ivory saltcellar dating to the 16th century. The collection now comprises more than 170 African masks, figure sculpture, prestige objects, ceramics and textiles.
